Modern Japanese culture is extremely popular in Minsk. More and more young people become fans of anime - Japanese cartoons with very peculiar artwork and a stunning variety of forms and genres.
The Festival Higan gathered hundreds of people who came to see - and to take part in different anime-related competitions - Japanese caraoke, fan art and fan fiction, theatrical sketches, Anime Music Video and, of course, cosplay (from costume play, which means impersonating an anime or computer game character).
The event was 9 hours long, stage performances were followed by intermissions during which people gathered up to take pictures of each other's amazing costumes.
My sister Julia and I were there and also had costumes - they were hard to make, so showing them off was extremely flattering :)

Here are a few pics of us - later, when I gather more, I will post some pictures of other cosplayers.




Walking around in a kimono was great. I'll always remember the impressed whispers that followed me and the heavy weight of silk on my shoulders.

I remember that day too well.
I remember checking in @ Shriners' to be operated on the 12th.

Shriners' Hospital is located on a hill, you see. And there's a hospital with an ER across the street, where people are sometimes brought by a helicopter.
I remember too well. A helicopter flew by Shriners' as it did many times before - and all the people ducked, all at the same time, covering their heads, some falling to their knees, all voices and laughter freezing into frightened silence.

I remember. And graphite on my hands feels like ash.


My friends and I found this house by accident. It's completely burnt out from the inside, empty and dead.
